Contract

CONFIDENTIALITY

Counselling is confidential.  I discuss my work with a supervisor, as a professional requirement, but other than that, will not divulge details of your sessions to anyone.

If I thought at any point that you were at risk, I would have to discuss with you the action I might need to take; for example, contacting your GP.  There are some areas of law that require me to break confidentiality.  It may be that during our work it becomes necessary to refer you to another service to best meet your needs and I will do what I can to facilitate this.

If you live in the area, it may be our paths cross outside of sessions. I will not attempt to say hello but leave it up to you as whether you wish to acknowledge you’ve seen me.  This is to protect you and not intended as rejection. Therapy is not a social relationship and the privacy of both of us needs respecting.

DATA PROTECTION

I keep basic contact details for you in a way that does not identify you as a client (email/phone number) in password protected smartphone/laptop/email accounts.  I will use these to contact you about appointments only. These will be deleted once the work has finished.

I keep minimal paper notes of our work together and these records are retained for three years in a secure environment.

You have the right to ask me to see the information I hold about you.  Please ask me and this can be arranged (unless I feel it may be detrimental to the work).  You have the right under GDPR to ask me to delete information I hold about you after the work has finished, which I will do save for that which I may have a legal obligation to keep.  Lack of consent to information being held during therapy, would mean the therapy would need to cease.

MISSED/CANCELLED SESSIONS

If you need to cancel or miss a session, you are expected to pay for it, as the session time is kept purely for you. But also because breaks can be surprisingly disruptive to the process and ideally need to be avoided.

HOLIDAYS a half fee (50%) is charged for holidays you take.  Please give good advance notice of holidays or they may be treated as a cancellation.  Any reduction in fee is at my discretion.

You are not expected to pay for sessions that I cancel or am away for.

ENDING/NOTICE

We will, during the course of our work, discuss the length of time we will work together.  It is best for us to mutually agree an end date, as this gives time to think about the ending, and to reflect on the work.  In all cases I expect a minimum of two weeks notice and this will be invoiced and needs to be settled at the end of therapy.
